I graduated from James Madison University with my B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Special Education in 2008. After graduation, I taught in public school for a year, then shifted my career, opting to work in technical writing, for an Inventor’s design business. I learned how to operate a small business working at Ionic Balancer and in 2012, I opened Jessica Schneider Tutoring, DBA Vail Private Tutoring. During this time I was able to work with a family whose child used a VGo in school, making school remote before “asynchronous” was on anyone’s lips! In 2017, I decided to go back to the public school life and simply survived that year. I took a break to parent my daughter’s early years then went back to school for my M. Ed. in Educational Technology and eLearning. During this time, I had an internship at PsychArmor Institute, assisting the senior Instructional Designer in developing training films for the military community. After graduation, I worked as a federal contractor and became a whistleblower on a disability discrimination case. I’m back in education, currently working on my Masters of Legal Studies in order to become a better advocate, more thoroughly versed in Education law. Currently, I assist with private Seniorcare during the day and homeschool my daughter in the evenings.

Philosophy of Education

My philosophy of Education in a nutshell is: education for all.

Teachers will always be needed, but education should be life-long. Therefore, it is important that we teach our students to be life-long learners. Education does not stop at Math 445 or Biology 600.

The advent of e-learning paired with services like cell phone internet providers and Starlink usher in a new era of learning where anyone with a cell phoneor computer and internet connection can take a course online. While some people frown on this form of learning, I believe it is the perfect situation for microlearning, especially in the aftermath of tragedy such as what has happened recently after Hurricane Helene. Were there an app survivors could download to push their location to rescue workers, at minimum alerting authories to survivors. Information could be transmitted by app to help survivors navigate their way out. Information such as flood dangers, pre-hurricane preparation tips, first aid procedures, shelter information and other procedural life-saving measures could be taught on-the-spot with a connection to Starlink (currently free for anyone in Helene’s path).

Of course, not everyday is Hurricane Helene, thank goodness. Most learners who are not enrolled in a traditional school, college or university, may wish to pursue MOOCs, Coursera, or other online niche spaces like Psycharmor.com or patientslikeme.com, which is based on lived experience and formal research. Therefore it is essential that our K-12 schools are properly funded and staffed with well-trained professionals and that our colleges and universites are funded so well that students are not leaving with $50,000 in student debt.

I believe that employers should look favorably on employees wishing to furthur their education, rather that seeing it as more money spend on overhead.

This is such an important topic for me that my tutoring business, JessicasTutoring.com (still under construction) offers free tutoring to my local community at least once a week since 2020.

She was very patient with our kindergartner and had plenty of age appropriate activities for her. I expressed my concerns with our daughter before the session, and she did exactly what she said she would! My little girl was nervous and she made her feel great by the end of the session. Amazing!
